New innovation network for energy production

Which new technologies are suitable for the offshore industry? We collaborate directly with the business

Danish energy companies and regions from western Denmark are teaming up in supporting a new, national cluster organization for innovation in the energy production sector; Energy Innovation Cluster.

Seven major energy companies; the three western Denmark Regions; two trade and network organizations and Offshoreenergy.dk is about to form a new, Danish cluster organization. Offshoreenergy.dk is partner in the Scale-Up Denmark center for Offshore Industry – powered by Next Step Challenge. The new cluster will benefit the future participants in the Offshore Industry elite accelerator program.

Energy Innovation Cluster will build on the work from current Offshoreenergy.dk and form an innovation network to include both the on- and offshore energy production industries in Denmark.

Energy Innovation Cluster will concentrate on innovative energy technologies and integration of energy in the power grid. The new cluster organizations backers have applied the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science for governmental funding for innovative activities in the period of 2019-2020.

Energy Innovation Cluster continues the work and organization of Offshoreenergy.dk. Future innovation activities will be coordinated and prioritized closely with the trade and network organizations The Danish Wind Industry Association and Oil Gas Denmark; both organizations joining the strategic development of innovation activities in the innovation cluster.

Mr. Anders Eldrup, Chairman of Offshoreenergy.dk’s board, is pleased to see an expansion of the scope for Offshoreenergy.dk:
“With three gold verifications from the European Union for Cluster Excellence, Offshoreenergy.dk is fully qualified to take the next step and aid the Danish energy production industry. I am happy to see all important stakeholders fully focused on backing one, strong cluster organization. It will strengthen Denmark’s unique position in wind, oil and gas”.

The goal for Energy Innovation Cluster is to secure world class innovation – a most important need for Danish competition in the global marked.

Mr. Mads-Ole Astrupgaard, chairman at The Danish Wind Industry Association’s board, says:
“We see global competition in wind energy on the rise and a continued development of new technologies. We have to consolidate the industry and the organizations in the supply chain in fewer, stronger organizations. I am very happy to see these first steps towards a common, strong innovation platform for wind in the new cluster organization”, says Mr. Astrupgaard.

Energy Innovation Cluster will also work for a stronger oil and gas industry. Troels Albrechtsen, chairman for Oil Gas Danmark, is looking forward to the new cluster organization.

“We are looking forward to the collaboration on innovation and synergy in our own sector and across oil/gas and wind. With a new national strategy for oil and gas in the North Sea and a new cluster organization, we focus on innovation as well as commercialization of research from DTU’s Centre for Oil & Gas. The innovative power of the industry is crucial for our competitiveness and the realization of the great potential in the North Sea”, says Mr. Albrechtsen.

The partners behind the new cluster organization are Siemens Gamesa, Vestas, MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, Ørsted, Vattenfall, Semco Maritime, Bladt Industries and regions from western Denmark.
Energy Innovation Cluster is expected to be established from January 1. 2019.
